If you're a small or medium sized business you probably avoid using a lawyer like the plague. You probably used one, maybe initially to help set your business up. 

What did you find when you were dealing with your previous lawyers? They didn't seem interested in what you wanted to achieve and just did the bare necessities? They charged like wounded bulls?

We think that your lawyer should take time to truly understand your business. If they don't understand what your ambitions are, what your challenges are and what your needs are then how can they properly help you?

Further to the above, by better understanding your business then we are able to provide you with better advice and better service. For example, a shareholders' agreement should look very different for a couple of tradespeople compared to a business with ambitions to become a listed company. 

Also, if you are involved in litigation then there are probably concerns beyond that actual dispute that need to be considered. Two often lawyers just consider a matter within the confines of the dispute they are working on. 

What they should really be considering is how the ongoing dispute is impacting their client's broader business. Maybe how they handle the dispute won't change. In our view, that won't be the case.
